Course Description: This
course is designed to provide you with a clear understanding of the major concepts
and skills that are commonly taught in elementary school classes. The primary
goals o the course are for you to develop multiple representations and models
of mathematical concepts, to become proficient at mathematical problem solving,
and to be able to communicate mathematical ideas effectively. You will hopefully
become confident in your ability to do mathematics and that you develop a positive
attitude toward this subject as a result of engaging mathematics activities.
Required text: Bennett & Nelson, Mathematics for Elementary
Teachers: A Contempory Approach, 5th edition, McGraw-Hill.
Additional requirements: any
scientific calculator (graphing calculator OK)
