Dr Michael Zychowicz

Dr Michael Zychowicz is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Mount St. Mary College where he has been teaching Nursing and Nurse Practitioner since 1999. He is a Nursing Faculty Representative for the National Health Service Corps and served as a Reserve Officer in the Army Medical Department between 1991—2005. As a Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Zychowicz examines and treats patients at Orthopedics & Sports Medicine PC, in New Windsor, providing high quality care for patients with orthopedic problems.

 

He graduated from Orange County Community College in 1990 and The State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1995. After working as a critical care and emergency room nurse, he earned a Master of Science as a Nurse Practitioner from Syracuse University in 1997. While at Syracuse University, Dr. Zychowicz taught anatomy and physiology and performed a primary care / rural health internship with the National Health Service Corps. He has completed the Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in 2006 at Case Western Reserve University.

 

In 2004, Dr. Zychowicz was selected as the N.Y. State NP of the Year.  In 2007, Dr Zychowicz was selected by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a recipient of the Award for Excellence.  He was selected for the 2007-2008 Leadership in Academic Nursing Fellowship by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.  Dr. Zychowicz has published a book titled Orthopedic Nursing Secrets in addition to several articles and chapters on a variety of orthopedic topics. He is frequently invited to lecture locally and nationally to Nursing and Nurse Practitioner organizations. He is on the editorial advisory board for the journal Advance for Nurse Practitioners and is a contributing editor for the journal Clinical Advisor. His research interests include occupational back injuries and returning to work after an occupational injury.

 

He believes that patient education is a key component in assisting a patient to make the best health care decisions and maximizing their health. Dr. Zychowicz is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, a member of the Board of Directors for the Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State, and member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty.  He holds certification as an RN First Assistant at Surgery and has obtained Nurse Practitioner national certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
